1940's & 1950's
We played hand-stands all the time, the girls
tucking their skirts into their navy-blue knickers and joining in, we used to
have contests to see who could stay up the longest, mother sometimes shouting
out the window " The blood will rush to your head...Stoppit " so we moved to
somewhere else and carried on, as we learned to stay up on our hands for a while
the next step was to walk on our hands, I was brilliant at this, and proudly
show off constantly walking on my hands around the back of 2 Irwin St, I could
even master the steps into our close.
